Welcome to our Cruachan and Loch Etive webcam.
Here you can watch the seasons go by on Loch Etive and at the top of mountain – quite often in the one day!
Ben Cruachan, which overlooks Loch Etive and Loch Awe,is also known as Argyll’s Hollow Mountain, because it houses a hydro-electric power station deep inside it.
Loch Etive is a sea loch where the River Etive, which starts in Glencoe, enters the loch from Glen Etive.
Here it is known to be mostly fresh water, but as Loch Etive extends down past Bonawe and Taynuilt, where once Kelly’s Pier was used to unload load timber to and load pig iron from Bonawe Furnace,it transforms into a salt-water loch.
Where Loch Etive rushes to meet the Firth of Lorne and the Inner Hebridean islands ,it passes under Connel Bridge, over the Falls of Lora, where at spring tides, the standing waves provide a source of entertainment to kayakers from all over Scotland.
Our Cruachan and Loch Etive webcam offers a wee window into this Argyll world via Ben Cruachan and life on the loch.
Watch out for passing boats, bird life, the odd kayaker and sailing boats too!
